JakeSMiles is a an opportunity to remember and show gratitude for the life of Jacob Carter Day and other children like him. Jake was born with a congenital heart deformity that required him to receive a heart and lung transplant at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia when he was one-year old. After a few months of enjoying the health and strength of his new heart, and just two days before Thanksgiving, Jake's body succumbed to infection and he passed away. At his funeral his family emphasized that they did not want his passing to be an occasion for sadness, but instead they wanted it to be an opportunity to express gratitude for his life.On Thanksgiving of this year we invite you to walk, jog, run, swim, bike or in whatever way move yourself as many miles as you can for Jake and his fellow heart-friends. After you finish your miles for Jake we encourage you to make a donation on his donation page at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Then go to the Facebook page Jakesmiles and post a picture of you, your family and your friends putting in your miles for Jake along with any comments that you would like to share with the Jake-loving community. Ten Facebook posts and 10 donators will be randomly selected to receive a Jakesmiles t-shirt that will come in the mail shortly after the race.
To participate:
- Make a friend request on Facebook at Jakesmiles so you can share your post on race day.
- Decide how much you would like to donate per mile of activity and know the link to Jake's Donation page.
- On Thanksgiving Day go out, move and remember Jake, make a donation and join the conversation on Facebook.
Thank you for generosity in remembering the life of a special boy and for helping in the effort to save the lives of other children like him.
